　ミラノを回るならばドゥオモははずせない。ドゥオモというのは14世紀に工事が始められ、500年かかって完成されたゴチックの教会なのだ。 ゴチック建築の常で、針のように細い無数の塔が空に向かって突き出している。その独特な外観が忘れがたい。
　ドゥオモの前は大きな広場になっていて、いつも人がたくさんいて賑やかだ。広場に面して、建物の隙間に屋根がかかった通路がある。これがガレリアだ。有 名ブランドのショップだだとかレストラン、ショップなどが軒を連ねる。日本で一時期はやったアーケード形式の商店街ってのは、ここをまねしたのではないか な、と思う。アーケードの真ん中あたりに通路が交差する場所があるが、そこで上を見上げると見事なガラスドームがある。直径は38メートルもあるそうだ。 ドゥオモ広場に面する建物には、一階の広場側に柱廊（ピアッツァ）が設けられていて、ここにショップやレストランが店を構える。
　この一角だけを見ていてもさまざまな様式の建築空間が楽しめる。
　

.    If you go around Milan, you cannot do so without visiting Duomo.  Duomo is the name of a church there whose building work had been started in 14 century, but had not completed for 500 years.  As the Gothic architecture would have it, Duomo has numerous needle-like things sticking out to the sky.  The unique outlook of the building is unforgettable.
    In front of Duomo is a square with the same name, which is always filled with people.  In the buildings facing the square there is a pedestrian lane with a roof, which is called Galleria.  This is home to many a grand shops and restaurants / bars.  This Galleria is the model for many roofed arcades in Japan.  At about the halfway, there is a junction.  Looking up you could see a huge glass dome on top.  Also in building facing the square has piazza, a pedstrian walk with pillars alongside, which houses numerous shops and restaurants.
    Here in Duomo square, you coudl enjoy various architectural styles.
